Ultra Skin-Soothing Whipped Body Butter

Updated: Nov 8

As the colder months approach, my skin tends to get very dry, so I decided to create something to soothe my skin. This ultra skin-soothing whipped body butter was my solution, and I’m excited to share the process with you!

Infusing the Oil

To start, I chose jojoba oil because it’s one of the best oils for skin health. Jojoba oil is incredibly moisturizing and is similar to the skin's natural oils, making it easily absorbed without clogging pores. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which help to soothe and calm irritated skin.

I infused the jojoba oil with a blend of my home-grown herbs—chamomile, calendula, rose, lavender, plantain, and comfrey—all of which have amazing skin health properties. Here’s a quick rundown of their benefits:

  • Chamomile: Anti-inflammatory and soothing, great for calming irritated skin.

  • Calendula: Known for its healing properties, it’s perfect for treating minor cuts, rashes, and soothing dry skin.

  • Rose: Hydrating and packed with antioxidants, it helps to reduce redness and hydrate the skin.

  • Lavender: Antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, it promotes healing and soothes the skin.

  • Plantain: Promotes skin cell regeneration and soothes irritation.

  • Comfrey: Helps to promote new skin cell growth and reduce inflammation.

I set the infused oil in a cool, dry place for six weeks, shaking it occasionally. I didn’t measure anything; instead, I used the folk method, adding my dry herbs and making sure they were completely submerged in the oil. When it was time to make the body butter, I strained out the herbs and was left with 1/2 cup of wonderfully fragrant oil.

Making the Body Butter

To make the body butter, I created a makeshift double boiler by filling a pot halfway with water and placing a can lid at the bottom to hold my glass measuring cup. In the double boiler, I added:

  • 1/4 cup cocoa butter

  • 1/4 cup shea butter

  • 2 tablespoons beeswax

I melted these ingredients, stirring often. Once they were melted, I added my infused oil and stirred until it was just heated, careful not to overheat and lose the herbal properties. After mixing, I removed it from heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Then, I added:

  • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil (for its antioxidant properties)

  • 1 teaspoon arrowroot powder (to help the body butter absorb more quickly and reduce the oily feeling)

  • 20 drops essential oil of your choice (optional- I did not add any oils, so mine is very lightly scented from my infused oil)

I made sure these were thoroughly incorporated before covering the mixture and placing it in the refrigerator for about an hour until it was no longer liquid. Then, I whipped the mixture with an immersion blender until it was light and fluffy, occasionally scraping down the sides with a spatula.

Finally, I transferred the whipped body butter into jars, labeled them, and stored them in a cool, dark place. This body butter should keep for about a year and is truly amazing for your skin!

Final Thoughts

This ultra skin-soothing whipped body butter has been a game-changer for my dry skin, and I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did. Your skin will thank you for this nourishing and luxurious treat!
