The importance of acknowledging your own duality, light and dark, and the cycles of life.

Purity as a personality trait is rooted in our history and culture. This can be very damaging for many reasons.
Valuing purity above all else creates unrealistic expectations for people, especially women. It pressures them to be faultless and morally perfect which leads to feelings of guilt and inadequacy when they fall short of these impossible standards.
Emphasizing purity suppresses authenticity and can stifle someone's full range of emotions and experiences. To remain "pure", a person may feel pressured to hide parts of themselves that are deemed imperfect.
A culture of purity leads to judgement and shaming of those who don't conform to these standards, leading to mental health issues.
Being able to acknowledge the darker, more complex range of emotions and experiences is essential for growth and self-awareness. Only pushing purity ignores this aspect of the human experience.
Historically, purity culture has been applied more strictly to women than men, which often limits women's freedom and autonomy.
Acknowledging and embracing the full spectrum of the human experience- including the darker and more chaotic aspects- allows for a more whole and compassionate understanding of yourself and others. It encourages authenticity, resilience, healing, and a deeper connection to yourself.
At our events, and especially at Persephone's Return, we try to promote a more balanced view of humanity, recognizing that both light and dark are integral parts of our existence to empower and liberate the women who attend, as well as ourselves.
